It can be both strange and wonderful.
I want to know about your strange and wonderful.
Me? I’m looking back one year.
In May, 2011 I had a sudden urge to create.
I am in the creative business, so this was’t exactly unusual. But this time it really was different.
Little did I know this impulse would lead to a complete change of plans.
As I prepare to head to the other coast and experience the monster known as Blog World New York, I’m reflecting on this year-long journey.
You never really know what life has in store and it’s not always easy to come up with a scientific breakdown of the changes that come along in your life. What lead you to where you are now and why you chose a particular path.
Something else happened last May. My father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Something that lead me to reassess my life. Decide what was important to me and what I wanted to change.
Author Stephan Pressfield often writes about “The Resistance,” where self-sabotage takes over and is pretty good at kicking your dreams to the curb.
“Resistance is more like the pain-in-the-ass schoolteacher who won’t let us climb the tree in the playground.
But the urge to climb came first.”
When I first started writing for my blog, it’s like I was a kid again and was finally embracing my urge to climb.
Do you know what I mean?
And do you have that urge to climb?
One year ago I wasn’t even blogging, had two Twitter followers and honestly wondered if social media was a complete joke.
It’s all so …
My Dad’s failing health and my desire to be a better speaker lead me here. Life, eh?
This all took me on an unexpected Journey. Something that would open up a world of possibilities and I’m still exploring.
My two sons even read this blog from time to time and they say they’re not bored silly. File under “unbelievable.”
And even better …
It’s lead to my wife and I to discuss big-picture plans that involve downsizing and relocation.
So, what’s your story?
Has blogging been a life-altering journey for you?
How about you? I was embracing my urge to climb. Are you?
Are you attending BWNY? If so, I look forward to meeting you.
